For more advanced searches, you may enter @contents followed by a search string ending in an asterisk to stand for any number of characters to follow. If you enclose your search phrase in quotes, e.g. "marine chronometer," it will find an exact match to the phrase. If you enter the words without quotes, it will attempt to find documents with phrases having the same meaning.
When you select a page from the list, you may need to then use your browser's search facility (typically ctrl/f) to find the item on the page.
The search index tracks all text documents on the web site. Many of them are not displayed normally on web pages and some are very large or require special viewers.
